Elbamare Adventure Pool

In Saxony’s first adventure pool, guests can have fun on over 600 square meters of water surface. An 80-meter-long giant slide is waiting to be conquered just as much as the sports and adventure pool, the hot whirlpool or the flow channel. The tropical sunbathing garden or the sauna lure you to relax. Originally, the pool was planned as a standard swimming hall for the Gorbitz residential area in the west of Dresden. Before the construction was completed, however, the GDR era ended. After the political turnaround there was the replanning to an adventure pool.

Nordbad

In historical ambience, visitors to the Nordbad can enjoy a 16 by 8 meter swimming pool with adjustable bottom for regulating the water depth, which is often used for different courses. In the wellness area there are also different saunas and pools. The oldest swimming hall in the city (opened in 1895) is “hidden” in a backyard in the middle of Dresden’s Neustadt. In the first years the ladies and gentlemen shared the pool by the day. Above all, however, it was the 22 bathtubs that were actively used for personal hygiene. In the decades that followed, the pool was rebuilt and extended several times. Although it remained unscathed during the Second World War and subsequently resumed its operation, the Nordbad was closed at several stages from the 1970s onwards. A citizens’ initiative achieved an extensive redesign and in 1996 the reopening of the listed building.

Swimming pool Bühlau

In the barrier-free Bühlau swimming hall in the north-east of Dresden there is a 25-meter pool made of stainless steel with six lanes. A smaller course pool with a lifting floor and a paddling pool for children enrich it as well as three different saunas on the upper floor (currently not usable). Something special is waiting for visitors on the first floor: not only health-conscious people will get their money’s worth in an infrared cabin. The room with the heat-radiating seats is modelled on a historical streetcar. This is a reminder of the area’s historic past. The Bühlau indoor swimming pool is located on the site of an old streetcar station.

Georg-Arnhold-Bad

The popular family pool in the center of Dresden borders directly on the Großer Garten. The visitor magnet has a spacious changing and sanitary area and is completely barrier-free. Guests can swim in the 25-meter pool in the hall or in the 250 square meter adventure pool. From the latter, they can go directly outdoors to the four-season pool with current channel (currently not usable). Those who like it fast can climb the slide tower and go on a wild ride down through the tube from above. The slide is not only great fun because of the effect lighting, but at 93 meters it is also the longest of its kind in Dresden. Several attractions ensure that there is no time for boredom in the indoor swimming pool. For the little ones there is a separate paddling pool with a mini-slide. In the sauna landscape “Sweating between Old Masters”, guests can relax in the five themed saunas (currently not usable). Two restaurants round off the offer in the Georg-Arnhold-Bad. This pool looks back on a long history. Largely paid for by the sports sponsor Georg Arnhold, it was initially built purely as an open-air pool until 1926. The indoor pool was only added in the 1990s, when the entire complex was transformed into an adventure pool.

Georg-Arnhold-Bad (open air pool)

The popular Georg-Arnhold-Bad is located directly at the Großer Garten in the center of Dresden. In addition to the modern, family-friendly indoor swimming pool with a huge sauna landscape, it also has a large outdoor pool with a long tradition (opened in 1926, largely paid for by banker Georg Arnhold). The solar-heated 25-meter swimming pool with six lanes offers very good conditions for various water fun activities. The 18-meter slide (wide) is just as much fun for bathers as the four-season pool with a current channel. Even the youngest children will have the chance to cool off in the paddling pool with children’s slide and on the mud playground. The large outdoor area with many shady trees invites you to sunbathe and relax. In the renovated atrium, the changing rooms, sanitary facilities and various seating arrangements are arranged around the historic fountain from the early days.
